National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT), established in 1966 with assistance from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has been accorded lead institution status by National Programme Implementation Unit (NPIU) under Ministry of Human Resources Development Goverment of India.

The Institute offers academic programmes at Post Doctoral, Doctoral, Master, Bachelor and Advanced diploma levels. Reservation for various categories (SC/ST and OBC) exists as per Goverment rules.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for various programs as detailed below:

Post Doctoral and Doctoral Programs: (PDF, Ph.D.)

The Institute's main emphasis is on Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Processing Technology, Environmental Science & Engineering and Computational Materials Engineering.

However, few seats are also available for candidates interested in pure and applied sciences. The selected candidates will also be required to assist in teaching and upkeep of the laboratories.

Eligibility:

For Post Doctoral Fellow, a Ph.D degree is mandatory. For Ph.D, the candidates should have Master Degree in appropriate branch of engineering with minimum CGPA of 6.5 or 60 % from a recognized institute/ university.

First class Master Degree in basic and applied sciences will also be considered. A valid GATE/NET score is necessary for scholarship for candidates without an M.Tech. degree.

Application may be sent on plain paper, giving details of curriculum vitae including academic achievements and work experience. Applications are generally entertained twice in a year in the months of June and December.

Master of Technology Courses: (M.Tech)

Master of Technology course is of 24 months (4-semester) duration and is offered in the following areas:

1. Foundry-Forge Technology
2. Manufacturing Engineering
3. Materials Science and Engineering
4. Environmental Engineering

Eligibility:

(For the respective courses as mentioned above):

1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production Engineering or Equivalent
2. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production / Electrical / Aeronautical / Chemical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering.
3. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Ceramic/ Materials Science and Engineering or Master of Science in Physics / Chemistry.
4. Bachelor's Degree in any branch of Engineering or Master of Science in Physics / Chemistry/ Environmental Science (with mathematics up to Bachelor level).

Minimum CGPA of 6.5 or 60 % aggregate marks for General and CGPA of 6.0 or 55 % aggregate marks for SC/ ST candidates.

Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of GATE score, marks obtained in last qualifying examinations and interview.

A valid GATE score is mandatory for grant of scholarship (Rs.8000/- per month at present) as per AICTE norms. GATE score is not mandatory for sponsored / self financing candidates.

Advanced Diploma Courses: (ACC)

Advanced diploma course of 18 months (3-semester) duration is offered in the following areas:

1. Foundry Technology
2. Forge Technology

Eligibility:

Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production Engineering or B.Sc. Phy. Chemistry Maths) with 50% marks for General /OBC category & 45% for SC/ST.

Selection Criteria: On the basis of written test on 19/07/2009 at NIFFT, RANCHI.

Stipend: Rs.1000/- per month. Limited seats are also available for sponsored candidates. Candidates appearing in Final Examination may also apply.

Placement: Excellent placement records.

Mode of Application (For Master of Technology and Advanced Diploma Courses only):

Application forms (indicating name of the course) can be obtained from the office of Chairman, Academic Affairs, NIFFT, Hatia, Ranchi-834 003 by sending requisite fee in the form of Demand Draft drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of "National Institute of Foundryand Forge Technology' payable at Ranchi along with self addressed envelope of size 28x16 cm bearing stamp worth Rs.25/-.

Institute will not be responsible for any postal delays, loss. Alternatively, the application form and other information can be downloaded from the institute's website: http://www.nifft.ernet.in.

Application Fees:

For Advanced Diploma Course: Rs.300/- for General/OBC and Rs.80/- for SC/ST Candidates. For Master of Technology Candidates: Rs.350/-for General/OBC and Rs.100/- for SC/ST Candidates.

Application forms completed in all respect with supporting documents and requisite fees may be sent to the office of Chairman, Academic Affairs as per following schedule.
