Primary Responsibilities:
The Staff Engineer - Installation & Deployment is responsible for design, development, testing, and maintenance of features related to the installation and deployment of the QuickBooks Desktop product.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and extensive experience in design and deployment of shrink-wrapped Windows applications. The engineer will work with architects, other developers, QA engineers, project managers and product managers to ensure the applications developed meet Intuit product offering values and exceed customer expectations. The product must be functionally complete, reliable, easy to use, and supportable and meet performance targets.

Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop and maintain new features / QuickBooks installer enhancements using Install Shield, MSI, Object Oriented Design principles and various scripting tools as necessary.
- Work with product marketing integrating customer and business needs with technical capabilities.
- Work with technical architects to drive future requirements of the platform.
- Work with development team to identify solutions and the associated costs of those solutions.
- Build and maintain a deep customer understanding through direct interaction with them and indirectly by reviewing customer research data.
Qualifications: - Experience working with remote US based product development teams preferred.
Technical/Functional Skills:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
- 10-13 years of software industry experience, of which 3-5 years in the installation and deployment domain for consumer desktop applications.
- 5+ years of solid experience with an object oriented language C++.
- At least 3-5 years of excellent MSI experience.
- Need to have shrink wrap product experience. (web/Unix/mobile installations are not the same as desktop installation)
- Need to have designed or played a major role in the design of the installation
- Extensive experience with Install Shield / industry standard installation and deploytment.
- User interface-oriented design and development experience
- Knowledge of C#, .NET and XML is a plus.
- Knowledge of user-centered design principles and standards
- Experience developing commercial Windows applications preferred
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Experience driving engineering and cross-functional teams.
- "Self-starter" attitude and the ability to make decisions independently.

Team/Leadership skills:
- Collaborates effectively with peer engineers and architects to solve complex problems spanning their respective areas to deliver end-to-end quality in our technology and customer experience.
- Effectively arbitrates and resolves technological disagreement with informed, rational debate.
- Leads cross-functional product development teams.
- Mentors/coaches engineers to facilitate their development
- Influences development managers to insure appropriate levels of quality on owned technologies.
- Influences and communicates effectively with non-technical audiences including senior product and business management.
