Principal Engineer- Hardware
Cisco seeks a Principal Engineer. This is a high-level position that requires an industry leader and visionary to provide guidance and direction in a regional or functional area. The Principal Engineer role will require extensive cooperation and coordination with product teams across Cisco Business Units as well as extensive collaboration with the Access Networking community at both the hardware platform level, the general OS level as well as the network management level.
Principle/Distinguished Engineer Responsibilities include:
• Strong hardware and networking background
• Strong focus on user experience to increase technology adoption, and a passion for technology simplification
• Has participated in product or protocol design that focuses on ease of deployment
• Familiarity with enterprise management systems
• Shown ability to lead cross CDO initiatives, and work with and influence development teams
• Demonstrate ability to successfully influence cross-functionally by creating 'win-win' scenarios
• Has demonstrated ability to work closely with internal (Sales, engineering, consulting) as well as external teams (Customers, partners)
• Active participation in standards body is a plus
EXPERIENCE • 15+ years of research and development experience, notable industry professional within the networking community.
• Possess superb intellectual and technical depth, strong executive presence and a solid communication style that conveys expertise and confidence.
• Success in setting technological vision, building and executing against the plan. Leading managers, supporting multiple products, estimating project resource requirements, and managing product delivery schedules.
• Demonstrate a track record of implementing enhanced product development processes that shorten release cycles and improve “time to market” for new products.
• Experience positioning the product development function for growth within a heavily matrixed company, driving continual excellence into highly competitive markets and product lines where taking advantage of strategic opportunities requires short product life cycles and flexible and adaptable product architectures.

• Self-confident, possesses a strong work ethic, and is continually focused on improvement, innovation, and bottom-line results.
EDUCATION: An undergraduate degree in Computer Science. MBA preferred
• Ability to work with contract manufacturers and low cost vendors to define low cost solutions
• Ability to work with Cisco manufacturing to derive better value for products.
